Bomb Piggy Bank
By Venkat Ramamurthy
Queen Mary Antoinette wore a necklace, which was worth several millions of dollars and decorated her with varieties of dresses - when the whole of French was impoverished. And this was the cause for the ire of poverty struck people that led to French revolution. A chocolate named ‘Frozen Hot chocolate’ sells in a New York hotel that’s worth a million rupees in Indian currency. If these snippets of information may appear examples of extravaganza, this may also be anathema to Japanese as they are known for their frugality. They have a good saving mentality that becomes handy in these times of recession. The famous ‘Tomy’ of Japan had produced a novel ‘Bomb Piggy Bank’, a saving box in which people could fill it with money. However, the conditions for savings are very tight. People had to compulsorily deposit sums of money periodically. If the box wouldn’t gobble money very often, it would explode automatically. Probably, the kitty was right in being called a ‘Saving Bomb’ as it used to be called. It also comes with a feature of play game to attract children. Newer versions have already started coming up to match changing customer’s expectations.
