Camel Facts By Venkat Ramamurthy Camel known as the ‘Ship of the desert’ can sense water even before a mile with its sniffing capacity. The camel being the national animal for the Arabian nations has a penchant for salt water and approximately it can gulp 110 liters of water. It doesn’t sweat even if it walks for several kilometers at a stretch, and can walk in groups with elegance like a platoon of soldiers. There are fifteen varieties of camels and though it appears soft and innocent, there is lot of sly elements in a camel. A camel may live up to forty and runs at fifteen miles per hour. It doesn’t eat after 6 PM during sunset, however hungry it may be. A Camel delivers only one offspring in their lifetime and can carry 300 kg of load. Camel’s milk coagulates immediately after it is extracted from its body. It is said that a camel dies immediately after it sees another dead camel. The property of a camel to deliver only one offspring during lifetime and to meet death at the sight of another dead peer is something that is really thought provoking.
